code of practice on the international recruitment of health personnel - input wanted

Dear colleagues
WHO, in consultation with partners, is developing a code of practice on the international recruitment of health personnel. This is a direct response to Member States and to the need for action to address concerns resulting from international migration of health personnel, especially from developing countries.

An initial draft code is now open to all for comments through inclusive, web-based public hearings. Please submit your comments online and circulate the link below within your own public health professional network.

IUTOX ICT XII Call for Proposals—Excellent Opportunity for Member Society Scientists

The Program Committee of the 12th International Congress of Toxicology (ICTXII) is working hard to prepare an exciting program for the Congress being organized in Barcelona in July, 2010. There is still time to submit proposals for symposia, workshops, debates, key-note talks and roundtables for the Congress. We encourage all IUTOX National and Regional Member Societies to inform their members of the opportunity to prepare proposals for this important Congress. By doing so, individual toxicologists will have an impact on the success of the Congress and an excellent chance to present their important findings to the international scientific and professional toxicology community.

WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for Children - opportunity for comment by 31 Aug

Dear Colleagues
The Second Meeting of the Subcommittee of the Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines will be held from 29 September to 3 October 2008. This committee will be considering the following applications for addition to the 2nd WHO Model List of Essential Medicines for Children:
1. Acetylcysteine
2. Activated charcoal
3. Pralidoxine

ASHP Foundation Junior Investigator Research Grant accepting applications

The ASHP Foundation is currently accepting applications to the following research grant program:

Junior Investigator Research Grant: Apply by February 13, 2009

Supported by the ASHP Foundation

The Junior Investigator Research Grant Program supports practice-based research in medication use conducted by pharmacist new investigators.
Practice-based research affects a wide range of medication-use topics, including patient education; patient outcomes and effectiveness of medication therapy; health care quality; medication use in minority, elderly and other special populations; medication costs and financing; program evaluations; and access to medications.

Two $20,000 grants are available. The deadline to submit applications is February 13, 2009.
